I am honored to serve as your President this year. My involvement with our District Branch and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) dates back to residency. I have always been a member of this District Branch. I have had the opportunity to contribute as chair of the residents’ committee, chair of the addiction committee and assembly representative. I look forward to using this most recent opportunity to make a difference in the future of our organization at a time of paramount importance. These are challenging times for our country and the APA. The APA is restructuring to emerge even stronger. Nonetheless, we are doing very well. However, for us to continue to enjoy our successes in the fields of education, research, clinical practice, your support is essential. For example this website would not have been possible without the vision and support of members like you. Our organization in turn does a lot to support and help you as a member. For example we offer a mentorship program at all levels and provide legal assistance. My viewpoint is that our organization is only as strong as its membership. We cannot and should not take our organization for granted. Together we are strong. My mission simple; a) to increase our membership, b) improve the membership understanding how the NY County APA works. For example what is the role of the executive council, assembly representatives and committees, etc c) increase participation of members in our District Branch activities. My vision is for our District Branch to be the leader in innovation in the APA, while remaining compassionate and close to the grassroots membership. It is our duty to strive endlessly to engage psychiatrists across the spectrum in all fields. Please feel free to take advantage of all our District Branch has to offer. Do not hesitate to give us feedback on ideas you may have for improvement. I look forward to assisting you with the support of the executive council during my term as your president. I thank you all for the opportunity to serve in this role. I sincerely hope that our district branch will become as dear to you as it is to me. |
